The Phillies will hold a pregame ceremony on Saturday afternoon before they take on the San Diego Padres to retire relief pitcher Danys Baez’s No. 55 jersey by throwing it into a bonfire.
Baez, who was designated for assignment on Friday, will also throw out a ceremonial first pitch before the game which will also be cast into the bonfire.
In his two seasons with the Phillies, Baez maintained a 5.81 ERA over 80 games and joins Adam Eaton and Freddy Garcia as the only players in franchise history to have their jerseys destroyed during a pregame ceremony.
Tacky. Lame. Cheap shot.
Guy had one OK season and one bad one. Now he’s gone. With the team doing as well as it is, do we really need to beat up on Baez?
First, I wouldn’t call a 5.48 ERA an “OK” season. Second, it’s satire. Unclench the buttcheeks.
I’ll gladly unclench anything you want just as soon as you write something funny.
Several billion sites on the net, and you waste your time on one you don’t find funny. Sounds like a personal problem to me.
Cheap shot? Really Tim? He posted an ERA of 5.48 last year and 6.25 this year. I wish I could under-perform at my job by even the lowest of expectations, get fired, and still make a full 5.25 million. I am sure Danys is sleeping soundly despite Zaki “beating up” on him.
Can’t believe how close those guys are standing to the fire. Wonder why they can’t feel the heat in their jocks?
